Instead of popping a pill when you get a headache, toss back some almonds. For everyday tension-type headaches, almonds can be a natural remedy and a healthier alternative to other medicine. It acts as a pain reliever because it contains something called salicin, which is also an agent in popular over the counter killers. Try eating a handful or two of these wholesome nuts when you feel the ache start to set in.
Munch on gingerroot
Prostaglandin synthesis is a process that takes place in some animals (including humans) that makes lipid (fat) compounds within their cells. Those fatty substances are like little chemical messengers that mediate biological processes, like inflammation, and alerting neurons to pain. Certain enzymes spark off the prostaglandin synthesis, while some drugs, such as aspirin, inhibit the synthesis. Gingerroot, a natural alternative, is thought to inhibit the synthesis as well. On top of that, if you’re getting knocked with a migraine, it can help quell your nausea. Simply sip a nice steaming cup of gingerroot tea and relax while you wait for your headache to ease up.
You will need…
-3 quarter size slices of gingerroot
-2 cups of water
Slice 3 slices off of a piece of raw gingerroot, with each being roughly the size of a quarter. Gently simmer the pieces of ginger in 2 cups of water, covered, for 30 minutes. Use something to remove the pieces of ginger and transfer to a mug, or if you prefer, leave them in. Sip slowly and breathe in the steam if you want. Relax!
Apply peppermint oil
Peppermint oil has a wonderfully soothing effect when you’re suffering from a headache, easing the discomfort and clearing your mind. It can be applied to various places, and people who use it find that it works quickly to relieve pain. If you have sensitive skin and find that it irritates it, try diluting it with a bit of olive oil or water.
You will need…
-Peppermint oil
Massage the peppermint oil onto your temples, the back of your jaw, and forehead. You will feel a cooling sensation upon applying it. Breathe deeply, and if possible, find a quiet place to relax and sip some cool water.
Vinegar
Vinegar is especially effective to help migraine pain in pregnant women. Soak a washrag in vinegar and put it on the area that is hurting the most. Let the vinegar properly absorb into the skin for at least thirty minutes to get relief in the migraine.
Chamomile or Mint Tea
These are superb herbal remedies for migraine. Chamomile and mint teas can do wonders for the person suffering from migraine. If not possible to have mint or chamomile tea, dig yourself into a hot cup of any other tea.
Cabbage

Basil Remedies for Migraine Headache
Basil is yet another good remedy for migraine headaches. This herb, basil works as a muscle relaxant to cure headaches induced by tension and tight muscles. Get this:
Basil (dried-ground) herb- 1-2 tsp
Witch hazel extract- 2 tbsp
Water- 2-3 cups
Clean cloth
Do this:
Take 2-3 cups of water and bring to a boil.
Add 1-2 tsp of dried ground basil and let it steep till it cools down.
Now add 2 tbsp of witch hazel to this basil tea.
Take a cloth and soak it in this basil-witch hazel dip.
Wring out the excessive water.
Place this cool basil-witch hazel compress on your forehead covering your temples too.
You will feel relaxed.
Humidity

Temporarily adding a cool-mist humidifier in the bedroom may make a sick person more comfortable, especially in winter, when dry indoor heat can easily exacerbate symptoms. Warm Baths
You can reduce a child’s fever by giving him or her a warm sponge bath, but warm baths are also useful to reduce cold and flu symptoms in adults. Adding one box of Epsom salt and one box of baking soda to the water can also help reduce body aches, especially with the addition of a few drops of essential oil. Recommended oils include tea tree, juniper, rosemary, thyme, orange, lavender, and eucalyptus.
Lavender Oil
Lavender oil is known for its calming and soothing effects. It is commonly known as a relaxant and is the best treatment for headache. Boil some water in a vessel. Add a few drops of lavender oil in it. Inhale the steam to get relaxed. For best results, practise this method multiple times a day.
Alternatively, apply some lavender oil on the forehead. This remedy will help you to relieve pain.
Note- Lavender oil cannot be taken orally.
Basil
Basil is known for its medicinal properties. It can be beneficial for severe headache. Take some fresh basil leaves and put it in a cup of boiling water. Let it steep for some time. Then, drink it.
You can also chew some fresh basil leaves when you suffer from a mild headache.
Cloves
Cloves are useful in curing tension headaches.
Crush some cloves and wrap them in a piece of cloth.
When you suffer with headache, inhale the smell of crushed cloves. This will surely provide you relief in headache
You can also make a paste by crushing some cloves and apply it directly on forehead.
Other option is to use clove oil with some salt.
Mix it and gently rub it on your forehead. You will get relief in headache with a cooling effect.
Rosemary
The rosmarinic acid, found in rosemary, is helpful in healing headache.
Take some rosemary oil and massage it on the head to relieve pain.
You can also make a herbal tea of rosemary.
Take some rosemary leaves and crush them. Now, put the crushed leaves in water to boil and add one teaspoon of sage leaves in it.
Cover the boiling water and let the tea cool down at room temperature. Drink this herbal tea twice or thrice a day.
Apples
Apples are very effective against headache.
All you need to do is to eat an apple daily. For best results, sprinkle some salt on it. It maintains the acid levels of the body.
Sandalwood

Hot water

Do this for a minimum of two to three weeks especially if you are suffering from chronic headache or headache caused due to sinus.
Coriander
Coriander, Cumin And Ginger Drinking a tea made up of coriander leaves, cumin seeds and cumin can help you to cure headache fast and easy.
Take some hot water and put these three into it and boil it for a period of 5 minutes and then drain it and drink the liquid at least twice a day till you feel better
Betel leaves
